Snowdonia National Park

If you love mountainous regions, filled with scenic views and full of rich culture, then you’ll love Snowdonia. This national park, and all it offers, is a must-see for anyone staying with us at Garreg Goch Holiday Park.

Snowdonia is a stunning region, made famous for its beautiful landscapes and thriving wildlife to discover. There are over 27,000 acres of native woodland stretched across nine incredible mountain ranges made from glacial movements.  Snowdonia has plenty of things to see and do, such as over 1400 walking routes, and is full of incredible Welsh culture, including mills, factories, mines, craft workshops and so much more.

Walking Trails

Panoramic view from Snowdon

When we think of Snowdonia, we think of beautiful, untouched idyllic walking trails – the most famous of which is the summit of Mount Snowdown. Accessible by footpath, or rail, this legendary mountain is climbed by over 600,000 people per year. We recommend that all those interested in trails climb the mountain at least once in their lifetime. There is also a café and visitor centre on top of the mountain, so you can celebrate your achievement with a hot drink whilst you gaze upon the stunning view of Snowdonia.

If you love the outdoors, but Snowdon seems a little daunting, then you may be interested in visiting Fairy Glen. Fairy Glen is a rocky ravine in the Welsh countryside, and as legend has it, the creek is the home to forest spirits. The easy route around the glen is a 1.6km circular walk and takes roughly twenty-five minutes to finish.

Portmeirion

Archway looking into Portmeirion

Portmeirion is a beautiful Italian-style village that is only fourteen minutes away by car from our Garreg Goch Holiday Park. This stunning tourist village took roughly fifty years to be built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis. Wander through the Italian sculptures and brightly coloured buildings which complement the beautiful Welsh landscape perfectly. Portmeirion is a perfect place to spend the day with plenty to see and do, including a selection of cafes and shops – or, if you’re feeling like pampering yourself, book a treatment or two in the luxury Mermaid Spa

Food & Drink

Snowdonia National Park is full of award-winning restaurants, cafes, and bars alongside plenty of takeaway options. With so many options, we understand it can be difficult to know where to go. To help you, we’ve broken down our top picks of places to eat in Snowdonia.

  • Best Café – ‘Caffi Gwynant’: We think that Caffi Gwynant is one of the best cafes in Snowdonia! Sit in the sun and choose from a wide variety of cakes and delicious fresh foods. We’ve been told that their bangers ‘n’ mash and burgers make a great lunchtime meal after a long walk.

  • Best Restaurant – ‘Yr Hen Fecws Restaurant’: Authentically Welsh, Yr Hen Fecws Restaurant is hugely popular with guests and locals alike.  Serving fresh and locally caught produce, this restaurant is worth a visit if you love good food and local cuisine.

  • Best Global Cuisine – ‘CAFFI KIKI’: CAFFI KIKI is a Mediterranean restaurant focusing mainly on Greek food. Prices here range from £5-£13, making it a hugely affordable restaurant to dine in. Many guests highly rate KAFFI KIKI as it has plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
