Best Dog Friendly beaches in North Wales

North Wales is one of the best destinations for a dog-friendly holiday in the UK. With miles upon miles of scenic dog walks and unspoilt beaches, it’s no surprise that families are flocking to the region to enjoy a dog-friendly caravan holiday by the coast.

To help you plan days out during your getaway, we’ve compiled a list of just some of the best dog-friendly beaches in North Wales. All are within easy reach of our five-star holiday park.

Dinas Dinlle Beach

Dinas Dinlle Beach is a beautiful location for a dog walk in North Wales. This Snowdonia beach has a mountain backdrop and it’s sometimes possible to see the Island of Anglesey on clear days. The crystal-clear waters make it a haven for snorkellers, windsurfers, swimmers, and fishermen. There’s ample space for dogs to play off lead and paddle in the pools that form at low tide.

The beach is a mix of sand and shingle, with picturesque dunes and Iron Age settlement to the rear. Families can enjoy nearby parking, wheelchair ramps and toilets. There’s also an excellent Beach Café where you can watch the waves and warm yourself up with a hot drink and snack to round off the day.

Due to the wildlife protection Act, there are some dog restrictions in place. Dogs are not permitted between the stone breakwaters during the busy summer months. Please read the on-site signage for more clarification.

Harlech Beach

Harlech Beach is situated close to the Snowdonia Mountains and boasts nearly four miles of clean sands and grassy dunes. There’s plenty of room for your four-legged friend to stretch their legs and enjoy a paddle if they’re feeling brave.

A lot of visitors travel to Harlech Beach to search for the beautiful shells that wash up on these shores. The area is also steeped in history and home to one of King Edward I’s castle battlements, which overlooks the beach. Should you wish to explore Harlech Castle you can purchase tickets in-person or online. If the castle doesn’t interest you, there is also a shop, café and the famous Royal St David’s Golf Club nearby.

The beach is dog friendly all year round, however, during summer months, half of the beach is reserved for sunbathers and swimmers only.

Pwllheli Beach

Pwllheli Beach is one of North Wales’s best-kept secrets and a must visit when holidaying with your dog. You can sunbathe or picnic on the beautiful white sands, which stretch out for miles before meeting the Marina.

From the bay, you can enjoy beautiful views of the pretty cottages and the mountains beyond. If you’re lucky, you may even be able to spot sea birds, such as Herons and Sandpipers, as they dive and catch fish from the water below.

As the months get warmer, we highly recommend cooling off at the end of your dog walk. Some restrictions are in place during peak season in the section of the beach in front of the promenade.

Llanbedrog Beach

Llanbedrog Beach is an excellent spot to take your dog for a short mile-long walk across the sands. The beach is set within a sheltered bay, creating the perfect conditions for a family day out, whatever time of year you decide to visit.

Colourful beach huts flank the sands and its common to see wildlife in the heathland behind the beach. If you’ve got little ones in tow, be sure to pick up an adventure pack from the car park. They contain a variety of activities to help keep younger members of the family entertained.

North Wales is home to some exceptionally clean beaches, and Llanbedrog Beach is no exception. Free pooper scoopers are readily available from the welcome desk to help keep the beach in pristine condition.

LLandbedrog beach is dog-friendly year-round, though dogs must be on a lead from 1st April – 30th September. National Trust members park free.

Black Rock Sands

Morfa Bychan (better known as Black Rock Sands) is one of our favourite dog-friendly beaches in North Wales – though perhaps we’re a little biased! This beautiful beach is only a short walk from Garreg Goch Caravan Park and is a perfect spot for beachcombing, picnicking, sunbathing, watersports and swimming during your stay.

At low water, there are plenty of rockpools to explore as well as a vast expanse of golden sand where your dog runs off the lead and plays to their heart’s content. From the beach, you can enjoy far-reaching views of the mountainous countryside. It’s a great place to visit in the height of summer or on a cold and blustery day.

The majority of the beach is dog-friendly year-round, but there are some restrictions in place at the Northern end of the beach from May to October. This area is clearly marked by signage, so it’s best to keep an eye out whilst you explore.

There are toilet facilities within walking distance and the beach is serviced by an ice cream and burger van.
