Conwy Castle

This famous North Wales town is an easy drive of about an hour away from Garreg Goch Holiday Park and is a great place to spend a full day exploring with the whole family. The medieval streets of Conwy which loop around the Castle are all part of this amazing UNESCO World Heritage Site and they are packed full of interesting independent shops, cafes and restaurants.

The Castle itself is one of the most magnificent and best preserved in Europe. King Edward 1 had the spectacular Medieval fortress built around 700 years ago, but it is still in such immaculate condition that visitors can walk a complete circuit around its’ battlements, taking in its’ spiral staircases and towers which can still be found to be intact.

The dramatic mountains of Eyri or Snowdonia are clearly visible from the 1.3 km ring of town walls around the narrow streets of the town adding to the amazing panorama of this historic site. The magnificent town took 4 years to build, between 1283 and 1287 and the quality of the workmanship can still be observed in the eight exceptionally well preserved towers. The castle was originally gleaming white, with heraldic banners, painted shutters and shields hanging from its’ walls. It now boasts the best preserved complete set of bedrooms in a castle of its age where the servant’s passages between rooms are still intact.
